Barnet Green Spaces Manifesto

A Parks and Green Space manifesto for the Local Elections in May 2022 was launched by the Barnet Green Spaces Network on 8th March. The network comprises some 40 Friends of Parks and Green Spaces groups across the Borough representing over 2000 residents.

The Manifesto was drawn up by the groups and will be circulated to all the main political parties standing in the May Local Government Elections. We will ask the Parties to sign up to the policies and ideas contained in the Manifesto.

The six key points of the Manifesto are to:

  1. Protect ALL existing green spaces in the Borough.
  2. Increase funding and resources for Barnet’s Green Spaces.
  3. Expand the provision and extent of green spaces in the Borough.
  4. Introduce a Borough wide ranger service to maintain our spaces.
  5. Support and promote Friends Groups for each green space.
  6. Increase biodiversity, aim for clean rivers and streams and develop green space skills.

Roger Chapman, Chair of the Network, said: “The importance of green spaces, for our physical and mental health has never been greater. We want that recognition valued in the forthcoming local elections and will be pressing our prospective representatives to sign up to our Manifesto.”
