PARKS AND PEOPLE – STRONGER TOGETHER

A series of greenspace community empowerment conferences throughout England in 2019

To all greenspace community groups

The final three conference dates for the Parks Action Group (PAG) Community Empowerment regional conferences throughout England have been confirmed. Please help us promote these widely to Friends and environmental volunteer groups. They are not region specific, so if groups haven’t already been to one and can make it, that’s brilliant.

Following on from successful community conferences in the North West, London, South East, East Midlands and West Midlands over the last 6 months, these events throughout England are helping develop new and stronger grassroots networks. Importantly, they are feeding back into national policies and practices through the Parks Action Group (PAG), the national liaison body between the greenspace sector and Government.  The conferences are organised by the National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces, Locality and Groundwork on behalf of the PAG, and paid for by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. 6 of the 8 conferences are organised by the National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces, Locality and Groundwork on behalf of the PAG, and paid for by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The other 2 have been organised by local Friends Groups networks themselves.

We want groups to come and share their experiences and views – and to promote their voices and experiences on a range of key practical issues like organising projects, fundraising, campaigning, promotion and social media, and working with greenspace managers and Councils. Ideally, we recommend that a couple of people per group attend, so that you can benefit from every workshop. We will also celebrate our efforts in making a real difference to our green spaces! Those actively supporting grassroots groups are welcome to attend too.

Last but not least, whether you are attending or not, please can someone from every community group fill in this simple on-line Community Empowerment Survey – https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NFPGS-Community-Empowerment. Again, this survey is feeding back into our wider research for the PAG and the results will be shared with you all.

We look forward to meeting you there.

Kind regards,

Dave Morris – Chair, National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces

Michelle Furtado – Networks Coordinator, National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces
